The 26th round of the Super 8 Mombasa Premier League gathered fans at MTTI grounds to get a glimpse of the revamped league where they got served to four entertaining matches on 16 October during the Super Sunday meet up.

 

Wanayuki 3-2 LYSA

Wanayuki piled more pressure on leaders Good Hope at the top of the Super 8 Mombasa Premier League after edging LYSA 3-2 in a nervy encounter that highlighted the Super Sunday fan experience coastal edition.

 

Reagan Otieno was the hero of the day as his brace including a late winning strike gave Wananyuki the vital three points much to the delight of the packed venue who got treated to a spectacular grass root football treat courtesy of Extreme Sports Limited.

 

After early seconds goal by Bernard Safari was doubled by Otieno immediately in the second minute of the game, Wanayuki had clearly taken over the proceedings but the visitors were in no mood to let them off that fast and they reduced the deficit in the 32 minute through Mwalim Athman.

 

Athman then made it 2-2 just before the break to send the place in celebration as they headed into the breather.

 

The score line stood firm and it seemed destined for a draw until late five minutes before the final whistle when Otieno sneaked in the winning goal for Wanayuki who tie on 55 points with leaders Good Hope. LYSA stays fourth on 51 points.

 

Good Hope 2-0 Cross Roads

At the same time, Good Hope FC extended the lead at the summit of the Super 8 Mombasa Premier League following a comfortable 2-0 home win over Cross Roads FC in an entertaining match at the same venue.

 

Mohammed Mwamlandi set the tone of the match by opening the scoring in the 35th minute for the league leaders who are chasing the title aggressively. They went into the break with Mohammed’s goal being the major difference.

Gift Vitalis scored the winning goal for the hosts in the 79th minute to ensure they put the three points in their basket where they have 55 points at the top of the standings. Cross Roads on the other hand remain 9th with 28 points after 25 rounds of matches.

 

Bamburi United 2-0 Likoni Spurs

Ramadhan Salim put a man-of-the-match performance netting twice in either halves to lift Bamburi United to a resounding 2-0 win over rusty Likoni Spurs in an earlier match during the day.

 

Bamburi who were pre-match favorites lived up to their tag with Salim firing the hosts in front in the 19th minute with a wonderful strike that stood until the first half break.

 

Upon resumption, Likoni could not contain Salim once again as he found his way past the slumbering Spurs back-line to sink in the decisive winning goal in the 69th minute. The win helps Bamburi keep tabs on the pole position where they now lie third on 54 points while Likoni’s problems at the end of the standings worsened as they stagnate at second last with a mere 16 points.

 

Umba Sports 1-0 Boca Junior

In the first encounter of the day, after a playing to a barren first period, Lamen Oduor recued the ship for Umba Sports with a lone strike in the 69th minute to spare the home team from humiliation against stubborn Boca Junior.

The only goal of the match by Oduor hands Umba three important points that displaces Boca from 13thplace on the log where they now occupy with 25 points. Boca shifts to 14th with 23 points.
