By Ronnie Lusulire,
Football is a beautiful game that unites people from all walks of life, for footballers it makes them become one since it’s their business. Soka25east.com brings you some of the best friends Ugandan football currently.
Ivan Bukenya and Sula Matovu,
The two got to know more about each other in the 2007 Coca cola national schools post primary that were held in Jinja district.
Bukenya was at Kibuli SS while Matovu was at East high school where both put up brilliant displays and were selected amongst best players.
From their they joined Proline FC together and became like brothers. It’s of no surprise that when Bukenya joined Iraq side Erbil FC he connected Matovu and also did the same while at South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.
Yunus Sentamu and Miya Farouk,
The duo got to know about each other while playing in the Masaza cup of Buganda. They later reunited at St. Marys SS Kitende and later Vipers sports club.
After Sentamu making news in the 2014 Chan tournament in South Africa in which he scored three goals, he was quick to alert the nation about Miya who by then wasn’t known.
The following season Vipers promoted Miya to the senior side and since then he has become a darling to most soccer lovers in the nation. It’s of no surprise that the duo share the same agent.
Savio Kabugo and Richard Kassaga,
In Ugandan football it’s hard to find best friends playing in the same department. The relationship of the duo surprises everyone.
They got to know each other in 2012 while Savio was playing for Sports club Victoria University and Kassaga for Kira Young FC.
The following year Cranes head coach Micho summoned them for the Chan qualifiers against Tanzania and they impressed, they went on to do wonders in the final tournament in 2014 that was held in South Africa which made most football lovers wish for their partnership on the senior cranes team as it reminded them of the Sekagya-Batabaire collaboration.
The two are most of the times together, do gym, swim etc together.
Kipson Atuhaire and Latif Zidane,
Despite Atuhaire changing his nationality to Rwanda, he has never forgetten his long time friend Latif. Latif’s talent while at school with Kitende was too much but surprised many when he got lost on the football scene.
He returned to football with Lugazi regional side Mulendwe FC in 2014 and when Atuhaire got a professional deal in the Kingdom of Cambodia, he immediately recommended Latif who successfully passed his trials. Until now their still there.
Edema Patrick and Makoba Denis,
The duo got to know each other while in school, after they joined Proline soccer Academy, traveled with Proline to England in 2008, played together at different national levels and once stayed together.
Edema is currently playing professional football in Portugal while Makoba plays for Proline FC and every time Edema comes back in the country he gets mostly accompanied by Makoba.
