For some time now, The left back position has been a cause for concern for many soccer pundits and fans who felt Emmanuel Mbola needed to improve or be displaced. It seems Wedson Nyirenda had similar thoughts as he has given responsibility to Sensational Zanaco’s Fackson Kapumbu.
Mbola was a very promising talent in his early days with Chipolopolo. He was exceptional even at club level becoming the first Zambian to feature in the Uefa Champions League, representing Armenian club Pyunik
Yerevan in a 0–0
draw v Dinamo Zagreb on 14 July 2009.
Mbola rather lost his form along the way and become rather a liability to the National team. A number of replacements where tipped to succeed Mbola at least until he rediscovers his form, among them Lawrence Chungu of Power Dynamos , Stephen Kabamba of Green buffaloes and the man that is eventually seeming like the rightful heir Fackson Kapumbu.
The Zanaco Left-Back has accounted well for himself in the two matches he has started for chipolopolo under Coach Wedson Nyirenda. Kapumbu is a very talented skillful player that has a a good attacking sense combined with defensive intelligence.
Only time will tell weather Fackson has displaced Emmanuel Mbola for good and established himself as the new permanent Chipolopolo left back. He has to keep improving and putting up great performances as Lawrence Chungu,Stephen Kabamba and Emmanuel Mbola himself won’t let him off that easily. He seems to have won the battle for now but the war is far from being over.
