The Kenyan Premier League suffered a huge blow after World Football Governing body (FIFA) apparently gave support to its affiliate Football Kenya Federation(FKF) in the ongoing battle that has seen the federation get an injuction stopping the league from being run .
In a letter written by FIFA Deputy Secretary General Markus Kattner, KPL were reminded that the only body recognised to run football and organise all football activities in Kenya was FKF.
“From the Onset we would like to be clear that our offices are not in contact with Kenyan Premier League nor have have we exchanged any correspondence”
“Furthermore we would like to inform you that as per Article 10 of the FIFA Statutes only football associations are responsible for organising and supervising football in all its forms in a country and are eligible to be members of FIFA.In the case of Kenya the one and only member of FIFA is FKF”
“It is not possible for Leagues,Such as KPL, to be a member of FIFA and its not possible that KPL could be a “Quasi” member of FIFA under the statutes “the letter written by Markus Kattner the FIFA DSG read in part.
The new development seemed to have jolted KPL who had earlier arranged to have Transparency Cup played from the weekend as they wrote to the clubs putting the tournament on hold until further notice .
FKF succesfully sort a court injuction stopping the Kenyan Premier League from running the league alluding to the fact that they were the bonifide members of FIFA hence starting their own FKF Premier League .
