Mozambique and DR Congo have drawn in a 2016 COSAFA Under- 20 Championship Group D tie at Mogwase stadium in South Africa.
Mozambique wanted to win this match, whilst DR Congo, for some reason, expected to win. And Ngoma Konde will be asking questions of his defence.
Congolese moved the ball around well in midfield, with left-wing Masikini creating space and opportunities for the deadly strike-partnership of Mutumosi and Lubaki.
Both strikers made a mockery of the Mozambique back-line, opening up huge gaps and keeping Leondro Caiado on his toes for the full 90 minutes.
Mozambique should have made more of the DRC ‘s messy defence, but the strike duo of Dinris Ibraimo and Rui Milambo could only send their shots over the goal or straight to keeper, Kama.
Mussa Juao combined well with Dinis Ibraimo on the right flank, setting up Mozambique’s first chance on goal early in the first half. But typically, Soares knocked Joao’s cross over the bar and a few minutes later Sultane did the same off Victor Mario’ pass.
Bruno Langa also failed to convert an excellent move started by Yuran Riberio and when Mozambique’s best chance of the half fell to Mario, he wasted it, sending Joao’ header high into the crowd with his left foot.
DRC will be more than satisfied with this outing. Just before half-time Lubaki broke open the Mozambique defence, only to shave Kama’s right post as they continued to pile on the pressure in the second period.
Tshibwabwa displayed some of the best skill in the match, dancing around Mozambique defence , but Juao could not meet his cross.Lubaki also went close, but saw his shot deflected by Kuluza.
Milombo did not pass up his next opportunity, firing a shot but the keeper managed to get his foot in the way. Sultane also had a couple of shots, but could not make the target.
And true to form DRC finished the stronger of the two sides, with Masikini sending the ball wide of Leondro Caiado’s post in injury time.
