Mauritius began their 2016 Cosafa U-20 Championship campaign with a 2-0 win over Seychelles to go top of Group C in a match played at Mogwase Stadium on Thursday.
Alex Ferre opened the scoring with a diving header from a well taken free kick in 19th minute to give the Islanders a well deserved lead.
Mauritius were dangerous throughout with Ferre being denied by goalkeeper Tirant both halves.
But Marcus Dimache sealed the win early in second half with a strike in 48th minute.
Mauritius started the tournament encouraging as 19-year-old Jacskon, saw a fierce volley parried away by goalkeeper Tirant.
But, against the run of play, Ferre showed his quality as he kept his cool to head the ball into the net after Gonzalves’s free kick.
Seychelles were slightly fortunate to be ahead at the break as Panayi threatened constantly.
It was Seychelles who again looked more likely to score after the interval but, after Monnaie’s close-range shot was blocked by Tirant, with Mauritius sure of victory.
Fanchette advanced down the right and delivered a pass that was slotted home by Dimache to seal victory.
Minutes before the end, unpleasant play was witnessed with match referee sending out Darly Louise as both teams finished with 10 men.
