Ugandan defender Martin Kiiza was Thursday night voted Tusker FC player of the year during the club’s gala dinner at Barclays Sports Club Ruaraka, Nairobi.

The former Simba SC and AFC Leopards stopper ward off stiff competition from midfielders Osborne Monday and Humphrey Mieno and goalkeeper David Okello to bag the award – taking home a personalized trophy and a cheque worth Kshs 70,000.

His fellow countryman Shafiq Batambuze won the most improved player accolade after narrowly missing the defender of the year gong, which Lloyd Wahome grabbed.

Okelo won the golden glove award while Mieno walked away with the midfielder’s honors – earning themselves shopping vouchers worth Kshs 30,000 each and trophies.

Coach Paul Nkata who guided the Brewers to the 2016 Kenyan premier league and the GoTV Shield titles was the biggest winner of the night – taking home Kshs 100,000 and a trophy.
