Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe will oversee the final of this year’s FIFA World Club Cup between Real Madrid and Kashima Antlers at International Stadium Yokohama Sunday.
The Kaphiri Mposhi – born whistleblower, who was voted the best referee in the Zambian Super League 2015, previously took charge of the game between Kashima Antlers and Auckland City, which ended 2-1 in favor of the Japanese outfit.
Sikazwe will be expected to match-up to the highest standards of the game at the global stage, with the world watching, and redeem the image of African referees that came under sharp scrutiny during 2018 World Cup qualifiers November for controversial decisions.
A good number of match officials including Kenya’s top ref Davis Omweno were suspended for up to three months by CAF after the African qualifiers for poor refereeing.
