A third minute goal from Masuta Masita helped Western Stima defeat Ulinzi Warriors in a Kenya Premier League (KPL) Under 20 clash played at the Camp Toyoyo on Saturday.
Western Stima dominated the opening stages of the encounter, scoring the fastest goal of the tournament when Masuta Masita took an advantage of lapse defence to punch easily into the back of the net to the disbelief of Warriors keeper three minutes after the start.
Evans Itisia had a chance to put Ulinzi back into the game on the half-hour mark, but he was ruled off-side.
Ulinzi nearly got an equalizer in the 34th minute when exciting midfielder Stephen Mweni’s header went inches wide of the target.
It was Western Stima chance with Masita playing a good aerial cross into the Ulinzi box a minute before the half-time break, but Victor Ngendo was well-positioned to make a clearance.
Western Stima in the second half perfected their defensive skills as they managed to stop all Ulinzi attacks while cretating few for themselves,and in the 54th minute they nearly scored when Ulinzi keeper fumbled Stima midfielder Bwire’s shot but the rebound was cleared away.
Stima were awarded a free-kick in a promising area in the 66th minute but they placed it wide the resultant set-piece.
Ulinzi coach Lawrence Owino introduced Alex Sunga early in the second half and nearly made an immediate impact as he missed a well timed cross to miss an equalizer.
Stima nearly got a second one when an nimpressive Masita picked a ball outside the box but the Ulinzi goalie was quick to grab the ball.
Ulinzi tried everything the could in the added time to get a goal but two attempts by their strikers were unable to muster anything for equalizer and at the end it was Western Stima who took home three points.
