By Bonface Osano,
Chemili Sugar settled for a 2-2 draw against Tusker in a KPL match played on Saturday April 4, 2015 at home in Awendo.
The visitors found themselves in unfamiliar position trailing 2-0 into the breather thanks to two goals from Chemelil’s duo of Hamisi Mwinyi and Daniel Murage in the 17th and 46th minutes respectively. Mwinyi headed home from Daniel Oriki cross from the right for the opener before he again set up Murage for the second.
The muddy playing surface of the Chemelil pitch after an early drizzle made play very hard for both sides, Chemelil however looked the more settled side in the first half. The Alwanga-Were combination for Tusker was always a threat to the Chemelil defense and in the 47th minute Were superbly connected Alwanga’s bicycle kick inside the box to reduce the deficit for the brewers.
Tusker pilled more pressure on the hosts in the second half and should have leveled scores in the 71st minute when the danger man Were failed to capitalize on a one on one situation against Chemelil’s keeper Fredrick Onyango who saved the moment.
Hamisi Mwinyi should have put matters beyond Tusker’s reach in the 78th minute when he was fed by Murage in the box but his resultant direct shot was properly dealt with by brewer’s keeper Shikalo.
Jesse Were leveled the scores for Tusker in the 86th minute grabbing a brace in process to complete a superb comeback of the afternoon; Anthony Kimani lobbed the ball inside the box to find Were who coolly slotted home the equalizer.
Chemil coach Mike Muiruri in the post-match interview blamed lack of coordination from his players for the loss, his counterpart Francis Kimanzi on the other hand could not face the media.
Tusker are now placed 4th in the KPL log with 8 points from 5 matches, Chemelil on the other hand are 7th with 6 points from equal number of matches.
