Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Masinde Onyango has admitted all eyes and attention will be on him at the AFCON in January in Gabon after the 2016 heroics.
The Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper was at the beginning of this week ranked 10th best goalkeeper in the World by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) ahead of a number of greats like Arsenal and Czech Republic goalie Petr Cech.
“All eyes and attention will now be on me in Gabon but that won’t affect me, I am focused at helping my nation to further stages of the prestigious tournament. Being ahead of Petr Cech is not by mistake as I played in the FIFA World Club Cup though I didn’t perform so well and he (Cech) didn’t. To be recognised as a keeper is not easy as there are so many great players but with hard work it’s all possible,” the burly keeper said.
On when he will retire from national duty,
“I don’t know when I will retire but I believe the future is bright when you look at the goalkeepers available.”
Uganda Cranes are in group D alongside African giants Ghana, Egypt and Mali.
