The Uganda Premier League (UPL) continues on Friday with five matches on card. But it is the big one involving first against third and another title contender in SC Villa away to Soana that will capture imagination.
Much of the attention, though, will be fixed at Lugogo where log leaders Vipers visit third-placed KCC.
Vipers top standings with 53 points, two ahead of Villa and three beyond KCC and will look to keep that distance as they try win their first league title in five years.
Edward Golola, the Vipers coach, welcomed the point in the 2-2 draw with URA on Tuesday and hopes to pick a positive result at KCC.
“A point against URA was good,” he told supersport.com, adding, “If we can get another against KCC, the better. We shall try to win the game but we must not lose.
“I’m targeting just over 12 points from the remaining six games (which include two against title challengers KCC and Villa) to become champions. We hope KCC and Villa drop some points as well.”
KCC coach Abdallah Mubiru earlier told supersport.com that Vipers had the advantage in the title race.
“The advantage is with Vipers,” Mubiru told supersport.com, adding, “They are still on top. It is theirs to lose. We have to win all our remaining games and hope they lose. It is in their hands.”
KCC will look to hardworking Paul Mucureezi and Derrick Nsibambi in attack while industrious Joseph Ochaya should set the engine across the play.
Vipers will again count of Farouk Miya’s and Julius Malingumu’s scoring boots against the very formidable hosts.
Across town in Kavumba, an eye will also be kept on Soana versus Villa as victory for the visitors coupled with a Vipers loss could see the Jogoos assume log leadership.
