SC Villa and KCC both carry a 1-0 advantage into the second leg of the Uganda Cup semifinals after edging Bul and Lweza respectively by the said scoreline on Sunday.
Denis Kamanzi’s first half strike was enough for coach Ibrahim Kirya’s Villa to establish early advantage. The Jogoos will play the return leg next Sunday needing just to avoid defeat to make the final.
Midfield player Augustine Nsumba set up Kamanzi, whose hard drive beat Bul goalkeeper Franco Oringa on 22 minutes to command early advantage.
Back in Kampala, victory over Lweza at Lugogo was what KCC and coach Abdallah Mubiru direly needed just 48 hours after that 2-0 home defeat to Vipers in the league.
Mubiru made four changes from the team that lost to Vipers, goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan starting ahead of Yasin Mugabi, who was culpable for the second conceded goal on Friday.
Saaka Mpiima, Wasswa and William Wadri were also restored to the starting team.
The hosts took the lead when Wasswa headed home Paul Mucureezi’s pass on 28 minutes and KCC held on to see out the game ahead of the return leg next weekend.
