Cameroon beat Guinea Bissau 2-1 to claim their first win of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in a Group A match played at Stade d’Andgondje on Wednesday evening.
The tournament debutants Guinea Bissau took a shocking lead in the first half courtesy of Piquete but Cameroon got an equalizer in second stanza through Sebastian Siani before Michael Ngadeu-Ngadui slotted home the winner late in second half.
Guinea-Bissau took off from the blocks on a high note taking the lead in the 13th minute as Piqueti scored a cracker after overlapping the opponents before slamming the ball home.
Cameroon best chance in first half came in the 20th minute when Vincent Aboubakar header went of the target, before Clinton N’Jie’s shot a few minutes later was easily collected by Bissau keeper.
The Indomitable Lions came back stronger in the second half and they had a clear chance in the 50th minute when Christian Bassogog strike crossed the ball towards Adolphe Teikeu, but his shot was just a touch too high.
Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui had himself to blame ten minutes later fired a shot from outside the box that just missed to the left with the goalkeeper well beaten.
In the 61st minute Cameroon scored the equalizer from a nice delivery that was slotted at the back of the net by Sebastien Siani who drilled a shot from outside the area into the bottom left corner of the goal.
With less than fifteen minutes remaining Guinea Bissau got a schoker from the four-time nations cup champions as they took the lead for the first time with Bassogog setting up Ngadeu-Ngadjui for a second goal.
Guinea Bissau were unable to recover despite their fine displays in all their departments and at the end of the 90th minute,it was Cameroon 2-1 Guinea Bissau.
Cameroon will next meet hosts Gabon with Guinea Bissau playing aganist Burkina Faso in their final group game.
