Democratic Republic of Congo reached Africa Cup of Nations last eight after thrashing Togo 3-1 in an enthralling 2017 Africa Cup of Nations game played on Tuesday night.
Junior Kabananga opened the scoring with Ndombe Mubele doubling the lead after the break.
Kodjo Laba scored one for Togo before Paul-Jose M’poku secured a deserved win for DR Congo.
DR Congo showed intrest of winning the match on 16th minute when tournament leading scorer Junior Kabananga unleashed a powerful shot which was well-blocked by the Togo defenders at the end of the box.
Togo failed to contain pressure and their mistakes in the midfield and that made them pay the price when Chancel Mbemba sent a through-pass to Kabananga who fired home to make it 1-0
Kabanango should have made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute, but his looping header crashed against the far-post.
DR Congo started the second stanza on a high note with just nine minutes after the start when they received a gift from Mensah whose poor clearance found Marcel Tisserand, who then set-up Firmino Mubeleb to lobb across Togolese keeper to make it 2-0.
Sparrow Hawks oportunity to shake the net came minutes later and were enable to pull one back in 69th minute when substitute Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba slotted ball home to make it 2-1.
The Leopards sealed their victory in 80th minute when Paul-Jose ‘Poku scored from a freekick outside the box to make sure of a 3-1 win.
DR Congo will now take on Group D runners-up in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
