Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘ Micho’ Sredojevic chose to praise his team despite their early elimination in 2017 Africa Cup of Nations that is ongoing in Gabon.
Cranes suffered a similar one goal defeat in their first two games aganist Ghana and Egypt before holding Mali in to a one all draw.
The two group stage opponents,Ghana and Egypt, have been able to make it to the semi-finals making Micho feel his team was among strongest teams in the tournament.
It is the same fate for Burkina Faso, a team that Uganda faced on their way to Gabon.
“It is language of facts. Uganda qualified for AFCON through a tough group that had Burkina Faso.We played and contained them in the qualifiers only to lose by penalty in Ouagadougou. If you look at them now they have sailed to semifinals,” said Micho.
“At AFCON finals we landed in Group D and we lost to the now semifinalists Ghana through a penalty and to Egypt it was the last minute goal that pushed us out”
“That proves the group was strongest at AFCON.We have the same teams to meet in World Cup qualifiers which makes it a tough group too,”he added.
Asked whether his team has chances of making it to the World Cup the outspoken Micho answered.
“We are still far where we want to be but based on language of facts on very good road to be one day there where dreams of Ugandans lie,” he said.
