Egyptian football legend Mohammed Aboutreika has been summoned to be questioned by the country’s prosecution over the allegations of giving financial support to the banned Muslim brotherhood group.

The former Al ahly midfielder is among the people who have been recently put on a terrorist watchlist–pending allegations of funding the Brotherhood.

In 2013, The authorities in Egypt outlawed the Muslim brotherhood and classified it as a terrorist group. Later in 2015, a governmental committee decided to freeze Aboutreika’s financial assets and charged him with several offences.

According to the general prosecutor’s probe, the aid was used in financing terrorist attacks carried out by either brotherhood members or their supporters.

Charges, includes providing the brotherhood members with logistics, moral support, as well as propagating rumors that aimed at harming the national security.

Aboutreika and the others are also accused of smuggling the group’s money out of Egypt.
