APR are the 2014/15 National Football League (NFL) champions with two games to spare as they lead the standings with 51 points, five ahead of second placed AS Kigali, who have one match left.

The army side clinched their 15th record league title in their 22 year history since inception in 1993 following AS Kigali’s 1-1 draw with Gicumbi at the Ferwafa Ground on Thursday evening.

APR Captain Ismael Nshutiyamagara expressed joy at the achievement. “We deserve to be crowned champions because we really worked hard this season. It is a reward for all the hard work.”

APR face bottom-placed Isonga this afternoon at Amahoro stadium and will be crowned champions after that game.

In the other games, Police defeated Rayon Sports 2-1 with Imran Nshimiyimana and Captain Jacques Tuyisenge netting for the law enforcers to had Andre Cassa Mbungo’s side maximum points.

Blues’ Captain Fuadi Ndayisenga scored the lone strike for Rayon Sports but his effort was not enough to secure a point (s) for his side, handing Jean Baptiste Kayiranga his first league defeat since taking over in March.

The victory sent Police within one point of AS Kigali on the table standings and Mbungo’s side will be challenging for second place on May 17, the last day of the season.

Sunrise moved into fourth position after beating SC Kiyovu 1-0 with the Rwamagana-based side tied on points with fifth placed Rayon Sports but the former has a better goal difference, +5 as compared to +2.

Amagaju was held to a 1-1 draw by Musanze while Mukura thrashed relegated Etincelles 3-0. Espoir’s 1-0 victory over Marines ensured they moved into the top half of the table with 33 points in seventh position.
