KCCA FC have qualified for the CAF champions league first round courtesy of one vital away goal in a 2-1 preliminary round second leg loss to Primeiro de Agosto of Angola in Luanda on Sunday afternoon.
Coach Mike Mutebi’s charges carried a slim 1-0 advantage from the first leg home win at Phillip Omondi Stadium a week ago and were hopeful of a favourable result in the return leg to qualify for the competition’s first round stage .However it was the hosts who started off brightly on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors early goal granted them the lead on 20th minute after a Geoffrey Sserunkuma slotted home an assist from Muzamir Mutyaba.
However Bua turned the matters seven minutes later with a perfect volley for the equalizer in the 30th minute to keep Premiero’s hopes alive.
The home side had more surprises rolled up their sleeves worked their way back in the lead barely five minutes with Geraldo putting then ahead with a header past Benjamin Ochan for an equalizer.
Then fate seemed to incline against KCCA when the hosts nearly struck for the third time at the stroke of half time but Kasasiro boys were lucky and it was 2-1 at the break.
The second half saw KCCA push numbers forward in search of more goals but despite managing to occasionally force their hosts on the back foot, their was always lack of the vital cutting edge finish to keep their first round hopes alive.
Brian Majegwa was denied by a goal line clearance after he managed to beat the Primerio custodian. While Premierio charged and poured numbers forward, the visitors opted to run the time down to the 90th.
Primierio despite attacks failed to extend their lead and at the end it was 2-1 at full time.
KCCA thus progress to the first round stage of the CAF Champions league qualifiers where South Africa’s Mamelondi Sundowns lie in wait.
