Rwanda coach Johnny McKinstry has named a 25-man provincial squad in preparation for the Caf Under-23 Championship second round first leg qualifier against Uganda on May 23 at Amahoro Stadium.
The APR creative midfield pair of Andrew Buteera and Maxime Sekamana return to the national team fold with the latter included for the first time since January when Rwanda were held to a 1-1 draw against Tanzania in a friendly match in Mwanza.
Rayon Sports’ Robert Ndatimana, Isonga striker Danny Usengimana, who netted in his side’s 2-2 draw with APR last Friday, and Marines’ goalkeeper Gahunga Habarurema are some of the new faces on the side.
Sixteen-year-old Kevin Muhire, who scored a wonder goal against Somalia in the 2-0 win in Kigali, has maintained his place in the squad and is looking forward to yet another opportunity to represent Rwanda.
“Honestly, I am honoured to be playing for my country at the age of 16. I have to continue working hard and I have a lot to learn. I am excited to be playing for the national under-23 team because it is a dream come true for me,” said Muhire.
The foreign-based duo of Bonfils Kabanda (Asd Sangiovannese-Italy) and Yves Rubasha (Portland Timbers) will also be part of the side that commences training on Monday afternoon.
The winner of this tie meets Egypt in the final round of qualification for the quadrennial tournament that will be hosted in Senegal from November 28-December 12. The top three will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
