TP Mazembe have signed Belgian defender Antony Venden Borre on a free transfer from Anderlecht.
“The Belgian defender has given his agreement from Brussels where he is staying. He is expected in Lubumbashi at the end of the week to complete his transfer and put on the TPM jersey,” the 5-times African champions confirmed.
The 29-year-old, capped 28-times by the Belgium national team, becomes the first European to sign for the DR Congo giants.
Venden, born to a Congolese mother, is delighted with the move – saying he still has a lot to offer.
“I’m still a footballer, always passionate about the sport and always eager for victories.
“At 29 years of age, I am far from retiring and I continue to aim at the summit, notably the national team return. I am now very anxious to resume playing as soon as possible – donning the TP Mazembe shirt that always made me dream,” he said.
Venden was on a year-long loan deal at French side Montpellier. The Anderlecht youth academy graduate has enjoyed illustrious career in Europe – playing for top sides like Fiorintina, Genoa (Italy), Portsmouth (England) and Genk (Belgium).
His latest move has received backings from close friends including Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany, “Those who know me know that this club has always represented for me. All my friends are delighted with my decision, starting with Vincent Kompany who congratulated me through the phone.”
The deal was made possible by the influential Mazembe chairman and DRC chief opposition leader Moise Katumbi.
