Gor Mahia have won the KPL 2017 Super Cup by defeating Tusker 1-0 in Nakuru.
K’Ogalo’s only goal came from Rwandese international Jacques Tuyisenge who converted a second half penalty.
The spot-kick was awarded on the hour’s mark when Samuel Olwande brought down Timothy Otieno in the 18 yard box.
Tuyisenge displayed coolness to tuck a low shot into the left corner of the net while goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng dived in the opposite direction.
Scoring was a relief for Gor Mahia who had wasted several open opportunities in the first half.Jacques Tuyisenge was denied by Lloyd Wahome at half an hour mark as was Keneddy Miguna whose shot missed goal mouth by inches in late minutes before the end of the first stanza.
Eugene Asike almost let in a Miguna bound attempt when he failed to cut off a pass, allowing Godffrey Walusimbi to race through with only Duncan Ochieng to beat.
Tusker had their close chance in the second stanza when Ugandan import Moses Ndawula hit the woodwork and when he connected with the rebound, struck the post again.
It was the closest 2016 Kenya Premier League Champions came to scoring in a match that Gor Mahia gradually took control of and wasted several second-half chances.
Ugandan defender Godfrey Walusimbi the chief culprit, twice missing excellent opportunities to break the deadlock, and Duncan Ochieng made several fine saves.
The result created Super Cup history becoming the first clash to be decided within the regular 90 minutesas previous three had to be decided by penalties.
