The Fifpro Division Africa two man delegation composed of Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe and Desmond Maringwa visited Footballers and Allied Workers Union Of Zambia ( Fawuz) on a fact finding mission with a view to admit Zambia as an observer member.
The delegation leader Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe who is a Board Member, said they were in Zambia to find out on the ground about the status of footballers union and the progress that has been made.
“We are here to hear from you about what you have achieved so far, challenges you are facing and also to brief you about the process and path to Fifpro membership,” He said while addressing Fawuz management.
The General Secretary of Fawuz Linos Chalwe told the Fifpro team that Fawuz was the only registered footballers union in Zambia which is recognized by Government and Football Association of Zambia.
He dismissed any reported existence of other Unions saying it’s far from the truth.
“Fawuz was formally registered on 10th February, 2016 and it has achieved a lot in the twelve months of its existence without a budget.
“Since formation we have set up a Secretariat and website, carried out limited recruitment of members, publicized the union in both print and electronic media, obtained recognition from FAZ and Government,” Chalwe said
Chalwe further reveals that it has been difficult to operate without a budget and Fawuz is currently constrained by financial resources to carry out its mandate due to lack of transport, full time staff and office equipment.
The Fifpro team carried out an extensive on-site inspection of records of Fawuz and visited a few stakeholders including Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and met with the General Secretary Ponga Liwewe.
