Kericho based Zoo Kericho’s fantastic unbeaten run came to an abrupt end at their own backyard when they lost 1-2 to Nairobi based Kariobangi Sharks.
It was however jubilations in Kakamega town when the centre referee blew the final whistle as Homeboyz now stay at the top of the FKF PL with same points but a superior goal difference.
Former Gor Mahia enterprising midfielder Ibrahim Kitawi put the visitors ahead in the 26th minute but Nicholas Kipkurui equalized 4 minutes later to a 1-1 Half time scoreline.
The second half begun at a frenetic pace with both sides looking for the killer punch. Zoo looked superior at the goal mouth and were hungrier for the winner.
Zoo’s top talisman Nicholas Kipkurui thought he had put his side upfront only for the referee to call for an offside.
Kariobangi Sharks however killed the game in the 84th minute when Erick Juma scored to hand the Mike Amenga side a famous victory in Kericho and by so breaking the hosts 12 match unbeaten run.
A win for Zoo would have sent them 3 points clear at the top. They however drop to position three in the table with 27 points, similar to Posta Rangers and leaders Kakamega Homeboyz but with an inferior goal difference.
In other matches played on Sunday, Shabana FC beat Agro Chemicals FC 2-0 in Awendo with former Sofapaka player Dimonde Selenge grabbing a brace in the 6th and 36th minutes of the first half.
The win sends Shabana to the 6th position and on course for promotion to the Top tier.
St Josephs of Nakuru lost 0-1 to Posta Rangers in Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium. Immediate former Chemelil Sugar FC man Gerishon Likono scored the all important goal in the 83rd minute.
Rangers are now joint top with 27 points, same as Zoo and Homeboyz.
In Naivasha, hosts Finlays Horticulture were forced to a 1-1 draw by visiting MOSCA; Finlays drew first blood in the 16th minute with a Kevin Ngugi strike.
The Government sponsored side however restored parity in the 36th minute when Vincent Chagala equalized.MOSCA maintains the 11th position with 15 points as Finlays drop to the 16th position.
