Michael Olunga’s strike was cancelled out by a last-gasp goal from Moses Waiswa as Uganda and Kenya drew 1-1.
Uganda substitute Moses Waiswa netted an equaliser with five minutes left on the clock to deny Kenya a momentum-building win this year in an international friendly match played on Thursday evening at Kenyatta Stadium,Machakos.
Stars appeared on course to secure a win aganist their neighbours when Michael Olunga put them in front in the first half.
It was Kenya who threatened in the early stages, Teddy Ouma setting up Olunga , whose blistering drive flashed over the angle of post and crossbar.
Benjamin Ochan was being kept equally busy at the other end and he produced a fine save to keep out Waisswa’s header after 20 minutes.
Ochan was at the centre of the action again 17 minutes later to push a Kamura free-kick around the post with Wafula then repelling a low shot from Hassan Wasswa with his legs.
Wafula wasted a fine chance to hand Kenya the lead in the 20 minutes, driving straight at Ochan despite finding space inside the area. Teddy Okumu was equally wasteful when he somehow shot over a gaping goal at the far post soon after.
Five minutes later, Olunga received long ball from Matasi before shooting low past Ochan.
In the second half, Uganda started a stronger side with Geoffrey Sserunkuma nearly getting an equalizer with his shot fisted away by Matasi in the Kenyan goal after Muzamir Mutyaba sent a great pass from the centre of the pitch.
The visitors could have been forgiven for thinking it was not to be their day, but more uncertain Kenya defending allowed Waiswa to hook the ball back into the area and Waiswa was on hand to get the faintest of touches to divert it past Matasi.
