DR Congo club TP Mazembe have parted ways with Frenchman Thierry Froger less than two-months into his one-year deal.

The quick move comes days after “the Ravens” failed to reach the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League groups phase for the second year running.

Mazembe were on Sunday 19th bundled out of the premium continental club competition by Zimbabwe’s side CAPS United on 1-1 aggregate.

“The club and the coach decided to split-up by mutual agreement after observing that the goal of qualifying for the CAF Champions League groups phase was not reached,” the 5-times African Champions announced in a statement.

Thierry, 53, succeeded fellow Frenchman Hubert Velud who exited the Lubumbashi based side, for Tunisia’s Etoile Sahel, after guiding them to the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup glory.

Mazembe’s continental season started on slippery grounds – losing CAF Super Cup crown to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, who edged them 1-0 through Nascimento Rocardo’s penalty on February 18th.

The club is rebuilding after losing a number of their top stars like Marveille Bope and Christian Luyindama, who recently joined Standard Liege in Belgium.
