Armed robbers attacked and injured Ethiopia national team coach Ashenafi Bekele at wee hours of Monday.
The newly appointed coach sustained a back injury while trying to repel robbers who happened to be targeting his car.
Sources revealed the robbers took advantage of the absence of the security assigned to the coach to commit their crime.
According to a highly placed security source who sued for anonymity, the coach has reported the matter to the police and have launched investigations to track the robbers.
Bekele, a former Adama City FC coach was appointed as the new man in charge of their national team in February this year.He replaced Gebremedhin Haile, who was the interim coach of the Walia Ibex for a period of five months after the federation fired Yohannes Sahle, due to poor results.
Meanwhile, Ethiopia Football Federation is expected to unveil Ashenafi officially on Tuesday night.
In the contract the coach is expected to take home USD 5000 (100,000 Ethiopia Birr) monthly which is a record pay for the Ethiopian national team job.
