New Confederation of African Football President Ahmad Ahmad has given his backing on Morocco over their bid to host the 2026 World Cup.
The north African country has bid to host the finals on four previous occasions but missed out on the 1994, 1998, 2006 and 2010 editions.
According to BBC, Ahmad expressed his satisfaction with the structures in the country during a press conference in Marrakech.
“We are convinced that Morocco could organise this competition just as South Africa did in 2010,” said Ahmad.
Ahmad’s backing comes just few months after FIFA president Gianni Infantino echoed a similar statement declaring that the country has the neccesary “infrastructure and organisational capacity” to host the tournament.
Seven years ago South Africa hosted the tournament and is the only time the event has been played on the African continent.
Morocco were also in the race to host the 2010 tournament but their bid did not go through.FIFA later discovered that the country paid bribes to the former head of the North and Central American Confederation in trying to win the right to host the tourney.
