The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is nearing the final stages of its search for Flames expatriate coach.

This comes after FAM admitted to have made an error for unveiling Gerald Phiri as Flames head coach a few days ago.

“We already agreed with Government through the Ministry of Sports and Sports council that we will have an expatriate for three years to be assisted by 2 local coaches. We errored for unveiling Phiri as Head Coach because an expatriate is expected to arrive in due course,” admitted FAM President Walter Nyamilandu.

Former Zimbabwe national team coach Kalisto Pasuwa is tipped to be the expatriate coach to be hired by the federation and he is expected to arrive in the country on thursday.

Earlier reports linked former international Bruce Grobbelaar, former Malawi coach Ian Gorowa, former Chipolopolo coach Honour Janza and Paolo Duarte indicating that they had also expressed interest for the coaching job.

The new coach will succeed Burundian Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan, who took charge for just one match, leading the Flames to a 1-0 victory over Swaziland in a 2017 Nations Cup qualifier last year.

Ramadhan had taken charge of the side following the sacking of Ernest Mtawali in July of the same year.

He will be deputized by George Phiri-the acting Flames head coach immediately after their clash against Madagascar in their opening match of the 2018 Chan qualifying campaign which gets underway this month.
