South Africa Football Association (SAFA) has announced that it has reached an agreement with Stuart Baxter to lead the national team.
The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor who is currently incharge of SuperSport United is set to replace Shakes Mashaba who was fired in December last year.
Media reports in Johannesborg reveal that SAFA will be making formal announcement on Friday as Baxter current employers, SuperSport United had given Safa until tomorrow to finalise the deal.
Safa’s head of communications Dominic Chimhavi confirmed the deal has been concluded and the official announcement will be made in the shortest time possible.
“We’ve finalised everything and pen has been put to paper. The announcement could be tomorrow or any time from now. It’s just a matter of calling you guys [the media] to the official announcement,” Chimhavi told Sowetan.
Baxter has been offered an annual salary of R12 million by SAFA and as with many coaches around the world, he wants to bring his own technical team.
The new coach will look to bring physical trainer, Josh Smith, who is currently working with him at SuperSport as well as his son, goalkeeper coach, Lee Baxter, who is currently working in Scandinavia.
