Nigeria international forward Ahmed Musa has been arrested on suspicion of attacking his wife.
The Leicester City footballer was arrested at his Countesthorpe residence in Leicestershire shortly after his side won 2-0 over Sunderland in an English Premier League match on Tuesday.
According to media reports,two plain-clothed policewoman arrested the father-of -two Musa around 1am on Wednesday morning and took him for questioning after being accused of beating his wife, Jamila.
Police in Leicestershire confirmed the arrest,“A 24-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning at his home address near Leicester on suspicion of common assault,”the sposkesperson was quoted by Indepedent.
His club Leicester City acknowledged that they were aware of the investigation, but confirmed that they will not be taking action against the player.
“We are aware that Ahmed Musa has today cooperated with a police inquiry relating to a disturbance in the early hours of this morning,” a Leicester City spokesman said.
The former CSKA Moscow forward is reported to have been released after the inquiry and since the case has been closed no further action will be taken.
