Derrick Nsibambi’s last minute strike proved to be the difference as KCCA FC overcame El Masry 1-0 on Saturday 8 April 2017 in a CAF Confederation Cup match at Philip Omondi Stadium.
In a match that had little action, Nsibambi came off the bench to score the only goal of the game as they lifted themselves up after Champions League exit.
Mutebi’s men came into the game with hunger to win as they got their first corner minutes after the kick off but it did not pay off. Allan Okello had a chance later but his effort went wide. El Masry had their chance but it was well cleared.
KCCA continued to press for the opener as El Masry slowly started to rise as match approached the first quarter.Islam Salem had a chance to put the visitors ahead his effort from the box was well saved by Ochan.
In the other end Majegwa almost grabbed a goal in the dying minutes of the first half but his effort went wide as the first half ended with boths sides unable to score.
The second half started with KCCA making the first substitution, calling in Brian Majegwa for Muzamir Mutyaba. With both sides trying to get better of each other, the first chance came in the 50 minute with Majegwa’s shot going straight to the keeper. The El Masry side then made a change, bringing in Ahmad Aly for Abdalof. Ssserunkuma was threatening again he saw his shot on target well saved by the keeper.
Paul Musamali then came close to putting his side ahead in 70th minute but his effort went wide.Minutes later substitute Nsimbabi gave fans something to smile when he slotted home in Ochan’s long range free kick in the 90 minute for the winner.
The return leg match will be played next Saturday in Egypt.
