The 2017 Uganda Cup will have a new champion, after Vipers SC, the 2016 winners were hounded off after losing out 1-0 to second division side Paidha Black Angels in a quarter-final encounter played at St Mary Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The result underlines the thrills and shrills of the domestic cup competition where the big guns are normally silenced by the small sides as Paidha qualified to their first ever semi-final in the cup competition courtsey of Fred Amaku goal in the first half.
Vipers, pushed for an opener early on with Moses Watenga troubling the opponents defense at will.
In the 30th minute, they were made to pay for the lost opportunities when Fred Amaku sloted home past helpless Alitho at Vipers goal.
Paidha resorted to defensive play relying on counter attacks to get a second goal but could have lost their lead when Viper’s Milton Karisa played in his team mate Moses Waiswa who somehow missed the target when scoring looked easier.
In the 70th minute, Vipers had their efforts nearly paying off for an equalizer with twenty minutes to go when Brian Nkuubi had an open chance to level matters from a header that went over the bar.
