Kenya’s foremost assistant referee Aden Range Marwa has been picked to officiate at the upcoming FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.
Marwa alongside Burundi’s Birumushahu Jean Claude will fly Africa’s flag among the list of eighteen selected for the quadrennial international men’s tournament organized by FIFA.
Meanwhile, Gambia’s Papa Gassama Bakary, who is the reigning African referee of the year, is the only whistleblower from the continent among nine picked for the 10th edition of the 8-team competition.
The tournament will kick-off from 17th June to July 2nd 2017 in Russia, the hosts of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Marwa’s reputation as one of the finest linesmen in Africa and indeed the world has been growing steadily over the years.
The 40-year-old Kehancha, Kisii born was trusted with the 2017 Gabon Africa Cup of Nations final pitting Egypt and Cameroon early this year.
He also graced the 2012, 2013 and 2015 AFCONs as well as CHAN 2016, CAF U23 Championship and U17 FIFA World Cup.
His greatest platform was the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where he was in charge of a group match.
