Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantankyi has been confirmed the Confederation of African Football 1st Vice President during today’s Executive Committee meeting in Manama, Bahrain.
DR Congo FA boss Constant Omari’s nomination as the second Vice President was also ratified.
Kwesi, a lawyer and a banker by profession, is a CAF Executive member as well FIFA Council member.
His ascension to the second post in command at the Cairo based body is no surprise as he is one of the insiders of CAF President Ahmad of Madagascar.
He was at the center of a well-oiled campaign, which ousted Cameroon’s Issa Hayatou, who was gunning for an eight straight term in office, during the March 16th 2017 election in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Ahmad promised inclusivity in his administration and the nomination of Omari as third in command goes a long way in fulfilling the promise.
Omari, a veteran in the continent’s football administration was initially in Hayatou’s camp during the campaigns but later joined the change bandwagon. He is also a FIFA Council member.
The Secretary General position is expected to be taken by Egypt in the power arithmetic. Egypt FA boss Hani Abourida is also expected to be voted a FIFA Council member.
