AFC Leopards outfield player turned keeper Karim Ndungwa was the hero of the “Ingwe” nation as he produced numerous bold saves including a penalty save to ensure Leopards secured three priceless points against fancied “Batoto Ba Mungu” in an enthralling KPL match played at Nyayo on Sunday.
The Kenyan Premier League tie was doubtful and the kickoff was even delayed by an hour as Leopards players refused to take to the field demanding unpaid salaries and allowances, Coach Zdravko Logarusic without his regular goalkeepers was forced to come up with a makeshift side that saw striker Karim Ndungwa pick up the gloves to man the goal post.
And Karim didn’t disappoint, more than once he came to his side’s rescue producing wonderful saves like an experienced keeper to ensure Leopards protect Yorou’s own goal in the 73rd minute even after defender Lamine Dialo was red carded for handling ball in the box deep into the game.
The ten man Ingwe battled tooth and nail with the crowd fully behind them to produce probably one of their best displays lately and by the blow of the final whistle Karim was carried shoulder high with everyone jostling for a piece of the savior.
The win propels Ingwe to fifth in the log with 25 points from 15 matches.
The loss leaves Sofapaka who were generally off their usual tactical and attacking game a massive 12 points behind leaders Gor Mahia as the league takes four weeks break.
