Turn of events as Lirumbi denies six AFC Leopards players dropped

By Lorraine Ruto,

AFC Leopards has denied media reports that  six players  have been dropped after they  incited other’s not to honour their weekend  Kenya
Premier League(KPL) clash against  Sofapaka.

Martin Andati who is a member of the caretaker committee had announced  the sacking of six players led by captain Martin Imbalambala.

Other players who had been send home included Goalkeeper Joel Bataro,Anthony “Modo” Kimani,Chris Kariuki, Titus Wamalwa  ,Dennis Dodi and Clement Mata.

While Andati said they had arrived with the new decision  after extensive deliberations, the club Organising secretary Timothy Lirumbi termed the report   as baseless and unwarranted.

Speaking at the Jamhuri Park Studio after gracing the GoTv  shield draw,Lirumbi urged club members  to disregard any statement issued  by
the caretaker committee  since they are not geared in bringing harmony in the club.

Later in the day,Deputy secretary General Kadima Asava dismissed earlier  reports that six players  had been dropped.

In a  statement, Kasava  said as the bonafide elected  members, they have never released any player whatsoever.

‘The club wishes to refute reports concerning the release of 6 team players earlier today. The club wishes to clarify that no player has been released from the team nor has any player requested to leave.

We wish to appreciate the players for their efforts, finishing fourth in the first leg despite the tough financial period the club is facing.”

He went on “You are advised to disregard such reports as they are baseless and malicious with an intent to paint the club in bad light.

The technical bench led by head coach Zdravko Logarusic have not released any names to the club management, either for release or
signing.

We have since written to KPL and FKF in this regard to take note of persons propagating rumors about the club especially durin this transfer period.
