Supersport United rallied to hold TP Mazembe 2-2 in the CAF Confederations Cup group D match at the dreaded Stade Mazembe on Sunday.

The result leaves the group locked with Mazembe, Supersport and Horoya City all on five points with only goal difference separating them.

Two quick goals from prodigy Ben Malongo and captain Rainford Kalaba set the Ravens sailing, as the defending champions passed the ball with panache to the joy of the fans, who filled the 18-seater capacity facility to the rafters.

The hoopla was however gave way for frustrations when Aubrey Modiba pulled one back with Teboho Mokeona leveling in the second half.

Malongo latched on Treser Mputu’s through pass before firing past Supersport Reyaad Pierterse in the 21st minute to make it 1-0 for the coach Pamphine Mihayo’s side.

Zambian skipper Kalaba doubled the lead four minutes later after receiving a long ball, which dropped behind the defense line, before slotting it in without breaking a sweat.

A moment of lapse of concentration at Mazembe’s rear guard allowed Makoena to pick Modiba with a split pass, which he gladly put behind advancing Ivorian goalkeeper Sylvian Gbohouo in the 26th minute for a 2-1 half time score.

Mezembe continued to dazzle in the second half but their biggest undoing was inability to convert glaring chances. This came to haunt them in the 66th minute, when Mokoena headed home Thabo Mnyamane’s cross to restore parity.

Mazembe are winless in two back to back outing after drawing Horoya City 0-0 in their previous group match.
