A first half goal from Gerald Phiri gave Malawi a win aganist Comoros in Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played at Bingu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday.
Phiri capitalised on a defensive error to slot in the lone goal in the 31st minute.
Flames flashes of brilliance threatened to overwhelm their visitors before a committed and Comoros team took up the challenge.
The visitors response produced a spectacular end to the game.
In the absence of key members of their team, Comoroes newcomers blended well with experienced players.
A sudden burst from Mze Ali defying his jet lag, shocked the Malawi defence and underlined Comoros’s ferocity late in the match.
Comoros may not have scored but it was certainly not for want of trying.
Such was the fans’ appreciation of the Comoros’ performance that coach received a rare ovation from the fans.
Amir Amdou was happy with his team’s efforts despite the loss.
“I have to say that Malawi are the first side to have stretched my team.
“But I think we had a great game and our boys have proven themselves,” Amdou said.
