Benin Football Federation has posted its appreciation for all the support accorded to the national team in the run up and during the match against Gambia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday 11 June.
The Squirrels recorded a precious victory by felling Scorpions 1-0 a result that the federation, via a press release signed by the chairman El Hadji Moucharofou.
In the release, the federation noted the collective effort made by the Head of State,players and fans who attended the match describing it as the first step toward getting ticket to Cameroon.
With the attack particularly noted for its bluntness in the clash, the federation asked the fans to be supportive towards the next phase of road to Cameroon.
The western African nation went to the top through a long range strike from midfielder Stéphane Sessegnon which allowed the Oumar Tchomogo’s coached side to take Group D lead with the same number of points with Algeria who also beat Togo by the same margin.
The squirrels will now have time to to prepare for the trip to Togo, scheduled for March 2018, as part of the second matches of the qualifiers for 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
