The Uganda national team received a heroes welcome back home after defeating Cape Verde 1-0 on their own backyard in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match.

Cranes touched at the Entebbe International Airport aboard Ethiopia Airlines early Tuesday and was received by to FUFA officials led by Vice-President Justus Mugisha,fans,friends and relatives.

The lone goal which handed Cranes their now famous victory was netted by in-form KCCA forward Geoffrey Sserunkuma in the second half.

On behalf of the team,Captain Denis Onyango thanked his fellow players saying they should remain focused.

“We responded positively despite the challenges encountered before the game. I thank the gallant players and technical team as well for the job well done,”said Onyango

” Let us stay focused for the job ahead of us” Onyango,noted.

FUFA boss Moses Magogo praised the team for the performance despite the challenges they faced prior to the match and called the Uganda goverment to support the national team,like it is done elsewhere in Africa.

“It is exactly 12 days since we left the country for Cape Verde. We played three matches against Ethiopia, Senegal and Cape Verde.

“I salute the performance of the players for the discipline and hard-work. It is not easy to keep away for that long in such conditions and you still deliver positive results.

“I continue to call upon the Government for financial support towards the Uganda Cranes. We need to be included on the national budget like it is done elsewhere in Africa. Our winning away to Cape Verde should only make us prepare better ahead of future engagements.”The FUFA President said in his speech.

The team now shifts focus in preparing for the 2018 African Championship (CHAN) that will be staged in Kenya and 2028 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign

Cranes local players side will play South Sudsn in a two legged CHAN 2018 first round qualifier in July before they face Egypt in the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Kampala.
