A wasteful SuperSport United side was forced to settle for a point after being held to a barren draw by TP Mazembe at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday in their CAF Confederations Cup,Group D match.
SuperSport started the match strongly in search of an early goal , they won a series of corners but the early set pieces amounted to nothing as TP Mazembe defense marshaled by stalwart, Mpeko stood tall to deny the man early sniff in their goal.
Thuso Phala nearly hit the upright in the opening exchanges while Thabo Mnyamane fluffed a glorious chance from yards out.
TP Mazembe slowly grew into the game curbing SuperSport’s endless attack, they had two rare first half chances from set pieces; Modiba and Makoenacame close to breaking the deadlock but their headers from set pieces were not accurate.
The first half was dominated by the hosts but they failed to make the possession count.
In the second half SuperSport brought in Brockie in the 46th miniute in bid to bolster his team’s attack.His impact was immediately felt and he had his shot missing the target five minutes later.
TP Mazembe on the other hand opted to defend deeply they were reduced to unfruitful counter attacks. Myamane joined the list of SuperSport’s wasteful players when he attempted to lob the ball over the keeper after he was put through by Daniels, his attempt went over the bar as he agonizingly watched.
Both teams had equal share of the last minutes attacking each other but SuperSport failed to utilize their opportunities due to poor decision making by players.
In the other Group D match Horoya beat CF Mounana to occupy the top spot ahead of SuperSport and TP Mazembe.
