FIFA has suspended the Sudan Football Association (SFA) from global football following goverment interference in football matters.
According to Sudan Tribune reports, the world football governing body has decided to act against the Sudan FA starting from Friday after controversial elections held on 30th April 2017.
Abdel-Rahman Sir Elkhatim, backed by the goverment was declared the winner in an election held without the goodwill of FIFA who had supended Sudan football elections six month ago.
The Fifa ruling on Sudan resulted after protest by current SFA President Gaafar Sir Elkhatim who dismissed the ‘new office’ claiming the election was illegal.
Sudan goverment reacted and removed by force the outsted Sir Elkhatim group from the SFA premises prompting Gaafar to file compalaint with world football governing body.
In response,FIFA sent a delegation to Khartoum and met the parties in dispute and gave instructions for an agreement to restore Gafaar group by 30th June 2017.
This was contained in a letter addressed to SFA Secretary General Magdi Sham al-Din on 27th June by FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura.
The letter reads that the decision to suspend SFA will be lifted once the decree of the Sudan Ministry of Justice which handed the SFA office to Sir Elkhtam group is declared null and void.
“of 2 June 2017 hasn’t been declared null or void by 30 June 2017, the SFA will be automatically suspended with immediate effect”
“The suspension would only be lifted once the decree of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice of 2 June 2017 is declared null or void and the Board of Directors of the SFA with its President, Dr Mutasim Gaafar Sir Elkhatim, is reinstated” read the letter.
So far the Goverment of Sudan has remained mum with no sign of acting on the matter.
