Gor Mahia have settled on Malta-born English manager Dylan Kerr as new head coach to replace former Brazilian international Jose Marcelo Ferreira (Ze Maria).
Kerr, 50, pips Italian Stefano Maccoppi, who was his main challenger, to land one of East Africa’s most demanding jobs.
“The decision to appoint Kerr comes after an executive committee meeting held on Tuesday evening,” gormahiafc.co.ke confirmed.
Kerr, who played for Sheffield United, Leeds, Doncaster, Reading and Burnley as a defender in his hey days, replaces Ze Maria who ditched the club for greener pastures in Albania with KF Tirana.
He is expected in the country Saturday ahead of Gor’s Tanzania tour, where they are scheduled to play Premier League side Everton in a friendly fire.
Kerr started his coaching career in the United States with Phoenix – Arizona before taking up a job at Argyll and Bute as Football Development Officer in 2005.
He is not new to the African football terrain having worked for South Africa’s club Mpumalanga Black Aces. He also coached Tanzanian heavyweights Simba SC in 2015/16 season.
Kerr finds Gor joint top of the Kenyan Premier League on twenty eight points same as defending champions Tusker FC. They are however winless in their last two matches since Ze Maria’s departure.
