Zambia’s Caf Champions league Cup representatives Zanaco take a mammoth and long trip to Morroco this weekend, set on a dance hosts Wydad Cassablanca.
There is still much to play for in their group, with the three top teams separated by just three points. Third-placed Al Ahly of Egypt know that a victory in their backyard against the already-eliminated Cottonsport would put them through as Wydad and Zanaco face each other in Casablanca.
The permutations are simple – Al Ahly would have to win to go through at Zanaco’s expense, while a draw may not be enough for the Egyptians. If Wydad Casablanca win and Al Ahly beat Cottonsport , then Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca will go through.
A victory for Zanaco in Morroco will eliminate the hosts Wydad should the Egyptians win at home as expected. And Al Ahly will finish second.
A draw will also be enough for the Zambians progress and will be accompanied by Al Ahly if they win in Egypt or Wydad Casablanca if Cottonsport gets anything in the Egypt encounter.
ZANACO INTEREST
If Al Ahly win then the Zambian club will be eliminated unless they win or draw in Morroco anything else won’t be enough to go through.
Though Zanaco maybe bouyed by their record on the road in this competition. This has seen them go eight games without a defeat in the competition so far.
With four away games without a defeat coupled with one victory away at APR. They will still think they can do it and come out of this group.
They have the confidence and support, including material at their disposal.
WYDAD INTEREST
Zanaco opponents on the other hand Wydad Casablanca has been very good too in this campaign and it will be a serious test of character for Zanaco . They have played 7 games so far in this group and have lost twice to Al Ahly and Zanaco away.
Their home run is as perfect as expected they have won all the three games played at home so far beating Mounana, Cottonsport and Al Ahly in the process and they will be strategising how to do it against Zanaco.
MY VIEW
Not an easy encounter for both sides and worse of for Zanaco playing away from home. Zanaco has only scored once away at Cottonsport and it will be more difficult on this one.
Numba Mumamba has proved to be a very good tactician and can make his boys stand out strong in this one.
But Wydad know what is at stake and they will have the support of their fans in the huge Stade Mohamed V stadium in Casablanca.
Not an way one for ZANACO. The Zambian champions have impressed and they need to be applauded by every Zambian but things don’t look good here and I think of will be a matter of the bridge too far.
They were close to the promised land but just like Moses in the Bible, they will see the promised land but not touch it.
