Buildcon on Track
We need to have another pair of lenses to look into this matter and stop the condemning view.
Let me take the example of the Zesco United case on this one!! On any day if Zesco United is to field a strong team, we shall have not less than five foreign based players in Bahn, Odiambo, Jesse Were , Akum and Iddriss Mbombo with a good number on the bench.
Now this is a club with about three feeder teams dotted around the country were you expect players to graduate and join the main Zesco United. Zesco Luapula, Zesco Vic Falls, Malaiti Rangers are all Zesco nursery teams and we don’t see that progression of players to the main team.
Now football is a serious competition which needs what we are seeing in the league at the moment. I for one don’t think the sucesss that Zesco is endowed with COULD have been achieved if the team only concentrated on the local material !!
If Zesco with all its history and pedigree can use five players foreign in one team, Why then have people thrown all the mud on Buildcon, a team just getting the grip of the Zambia Super League and trying to settle!!
Have people thought through how challenging it is for teams to get only local players ?
Times of Zambia reported on Thursday that the coach was considering adding local players to the team to balance that equation and I think its a good step but to condemn the team for their ambitious project isn’t sitting well and unfortunately this has gone into the minds of people calling Buildcon a team of foreigners!!
Buildcon for me has brought a different dimension and I think we need to give them time to settle and see what comes out of this project! The stigmatized tag we are giving them is surely not sitting well with the team who may feel left out and exorcized from the rest of the league!!!
Football has changed and we are one global village !!!
Let me tell you one FACT!! If BUILDCON was only using local players, they could have been fighting relegation already and perhaps going back to the zones next season!!
