Fifa Vice President and head of the Spanish Football Federation (RFER) Angel Maria Villar has been arrested along with his son Gorka in Spain in an anti-corruption operation.
According to El Paris,Villar is alleged to have used federations money to buy votes inorder to re-capture his seat in elections that took place earlier this year.
The offices of the Federation’s headquarters have also been raided as part of an anti-corruption investigation.
Fifa and Uefa both issued statements saying they were aware of the developments but did not wish to comment.
Villar was fined more than 20,000 euros in 2015 by world football’s governing body for failing to co-operate with an investigation into the controversial awarding of the 2018 World Cup. His punishment was not heavier because he subsequently contributed to the investigation, the organisation said at the time.
Another of those reported as having been arrested in the “ongoing” operation is Juan Padron, the Economic Vice-President of the RFEF, while agents in investigating the case are carrying out searches and registering numerous documents.
Villar is currently in his eighth term as president of the Spanish FA.
