The Sudan outfit Al Khartoum which was making maiden appearance in Kagame cup, made clear their intentions with a 5-0 walloping of minnows Telecom Djibouti yesterday.
Captain Salah Bilal scored twice from the spot, with Ousmaila Baba, Wagdi Awad and Murwan bagging a goal each.
At the heart of the midfield was Kenyan international and former Gor Mahia player Anthony Akumu, the lanky midfield dynamo was deployed by Coach Kwesi Appiah to cover defense, a role he mastered with ease throughout the ninety minutes, completely keeping at bay Telecom’s threats.
“I think the match was good. I don’t believe in small teams and big teams. I am happy because I was in the winning side today. God is great.” Akumu told Soka25east.com
The highly talented and humble player, explained his role on the day, saying Coach Appiah chose a cautious approach to the match.
“Sometimes I change roles and play behind strikers. But today he (Appiah) wanted our side to be more safe. We didn’t want to concede,”
“I used to play that role while at Gor Mahia under coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno.” He added.
Teddy will likely face his former side when Al Khartoum face off with Gor Mahia on Friday 24th July 2015, in the third match of group “A”
