It’s not typical to see Namibia national team jerseys worn at a funeral, but Robbie Savage wasn’t your typical follower.
The 50-year-old supporter legendary supporter never wavered to choose what his heart really desired,attending nearly all Brave Warriors matches in his lifetime.
Robbie, who succumbed to a stroke, a fortnight ago at the Katutura hospital,was given a rousing send-off as scores of people from football fraternity braved the cold weather to see him off.
At the funeral current and past football stars displayed their grief as Robbie’s casket was lowered to the grave.
Imms Nowaseb gave a moving tribute to the hero of Namibian football.
“Robbie wasn’t just a fan, he became our family. He would rock up at anybody’s house and make himself at home. He didn’t know how to pronounce people’s full names like Ricardo Mannetti. He would say ‘Cado’. He left a hole in the sport community and we don’t how who will be the one to put a smile on our faces.”
Robbie was present when Namibia made their first appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations in 1998 in Burkina Faso.
He also accompanied the team to the 2008 finals in Ghana in the Namibia’s second apperance at the continetal showpiece.
