Abdemajid Dolmy,a playmaker the likes of whom Moroccan football fans had never known, has died at the age of 64.

The legend is said to have succumbed to a heart attack outside his home in Casablanca on Thursday,according to media reports.

Dolmy holds special place in African football fans as throughout the 20 long years of his football career he never received one red card.

He was part of some of the most important games in Moroccan football history, including winning the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in 1976, winning third place in CAN 1980 and 1986, and the impressive qualification in the second round in Mexico’s 1986 World Cup.

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI  sent a message of condolence to the family of loved footballer saying that he learnt the death in deep sorrow.

“Morocco has lost one of its best footballers, known for his great performances that spanned over 20 years, whether in Casablanca club Raja, or of the golden generation of the national team in the 70s and 80s of the last century,”part of the statement reads.

Dolmy had a huge influence in Moroccan football being one of the most uncompromising voices of the game in his country.

Many remember him for the ease with which he played that saw him grow into a world-class playmaker that would put modern Moroccan players in his position to shame.

And in 2006, Africa honoured him when CAF placed him as one of the continent’s top 200 players for the past 50 years.
